The Flowers

we Grow

What a privilege to grow beautiful blooms for our friends and those in our community who appreciate the finer things. The flowers that may find their way into your home have their own journey. While they are grown right outside our back door— truly healthy and beautiful flowers take months of planning, intense care and a dedicated harvest. We’d be amiss not to share the flower’s story…

What really matters.

Beauty. Fragrance. Health.

[sus·tain·a·bil·i·ty] /səˌstānəˈbilədē/ n. avoiding depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance; "the pursuit of environmental sustainability"

Do you know where florist and grocery store flowers come from? Today 80% of flowers sold in America are grown overseas in questionable farming practices with harmful preservatives. 40% of those flowers end up in the trashcan before they make it to your table. The long and short of it? Getting locally grown blooms from a local flower farm is so much better for YOU and the environment.

At Morningside Meadows we are challenged to do our part in practicing healthy, sustainable agriculture. We are putting one step forward for the health of the soil, the flowers, vegetables and YOU! It’s about changing lifelong habits and finding new resources. Looking deeply into the facts we find that dirt ain’t just dirt any more! It is a living, breathing entity that must be nurtured and cared for. A soil sample is one part of the puzzle—knowing what it all means can be mind boggling. There is way more to understand than what makes the crops grow. It's caring all the way down to the roots. It’s about the buzzy little pollinators, the good bugs and bad bugs, the nutrients and the network of fungi— all the pieces that balance the equation. While we don’t pretend to know it all, we purpose to use organic practices in every way possible for a more sustainable farm— for health and happiness as well as beautiful flowers!

See the difference.

As we learn— experiencing successes, failures and starting over— we start to understand the bigger picture. Each year we make decisions to plant the flowers we do well at growing. Then we determine to do better growing previous crops that need improvement. Staying true to our gardener’s heart we trial new varieties that we can’t resist. Always— the blooms that go out into the world are the very best we have to offer. The more we learn and gain experience the better we become at succeeding in quality as well as a superior product.
